Deltona OKs Juvenile Curfew Ordinance That Would Fine An Offender's Parents

Posted

Deltona, FL - Last month, the Deltona City Commission voted in favor of an ordinance, endorsed by Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, that would allow the city to fine parents $50 if their child is seen out past curfew.

Chitwood called for the change citing a rise in juvenile crimes such as car break-ins and burglaries. The ordinance stipulates that a minor cannot be out in public between 11 PM and 5 AM, Sunday through Thursday.

Deputies will now either take the child home or to the police station, and parents could be liable for a $50 fine if they do not collect their child.
