DeLeon Springs Woman Killed In Early Morning Accident

Volusia County, FL-A DeLeon Springs woman was killed in an early morning accident where witnesses say a vehicle ran a red light. The accident happened at SR 472 and CR 4101.

The FHP report says the victim, 33-year-old Jessica Winnett, was driving a 2011 Kia north on CR 4101 when her vehicle collided with a 1997 Chevy pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Chaz Cummings of Lake Helen. His truck was going east on SR 472 when her vehicle hit the side of the truck. The Kia overturned onto its left side. Witnesses say the pickup truck ran the red light.

Winnett was pronounced dead at Central Florida Regional Hospital.

Cummings is listed in critical condition at the same hospital.

Passengers in his vehicle were 19-year-old Laura Goose of New Smyrna Beach. Her injuries are serious and she is at Halifax Hospital. 21-year-old Shelby Snider of Deltona is listed with serious injuries at Halifax Hospital. 18-year-old Jake Kuchler of Lake Helen had minor injuries and was hospitalized at Florida Hospital DeLand.

FHP says the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
