DeLand Woman Flees From Traffic Stop, Hit By FHP Patrol Car Pursuing Her

DeLand, FL – A passenger fleeing from a traffic stop in DeLand was hit by an FHP patrol car. Around 1:10 AM on Saturday, July 15, an FHP trooper pulled over a vehicle driving on Kepler Road onto Lake Charles Road in DeLand. The vehicle was driving 71 mph in a 45 mph zone. Another FHP patrol car came up behind the first to help with the traffic stop when the female passenger of the stopped vehicle got out and started to flee. The patrol car drove around the traffic stop driving in the direction of the 22-year-old DeLand woman. The woman fell and the patrol car hit her. She was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center and then transferred to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. 46-year-old Aaron Kuehn, the DeLand man that was pulled over, was charged with a DUI and is the father of the passenger hurt in the crash. He was booked into the Volusia County Jail.
