DeLand Police Records Clerk Fired & Arrested For Giving Confidential E-Mails To Son

DeLand, FL - A long-time records clerk with the DeLand Police Department was fired this week and is facing criminal charges after she is accused of sending confidential records to her son regarding a criminal investigation against him. 55-year-old old Carmella Provenzano had been employed with the DeLand police department for 30 years before retiring last year. She was then rehired as a contract employee on January 16 to fill in while the police department tried to fill two vacant positions. According to Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO), Provenzano emailed classified and un-redacted e-mails regarding a case against her son, Brandon Moore, who was being investigated, along with an accomplice, for stealing and pawning approximately seven guns. A statement from the DeLand Police Department reads, "Provenzano made an apparent error in judgment by abusing her position. The allegations against her, if proven true, are unacceptable and will not be tolerated at the City of DeLand and DeLand Police Department." The DeLand Police department was made aware of the allegations against Provenzano this week, and she was fired on Tuesday. She was arrested Wednesday by VCSO for obstructing justice as a public servant and giving out confidential information. Her son was also arrested this week on several counts of dealing in stolen property.
