DeLand, FL -  Update: The name of the pedestrian who was hit and killed by a DeLand police officer has been released. The name of the deceased is 58-year-old Emmons Martin of DeLand.

Earlier Reporting:

A Florida Highway Patrol investigation is underway after a DeLand Police Officer hit and killed a pedestrian and injured another with his patrol vehicle on Wednesday night.

It was around 11:22 PM on August 2 when a patrol vehicle being driven by Officer Tony Tagle, 23, hit two pedestrians near the intersection of E. South St. and N. Woodland Blvd. Officials say Tagle was heading north when the two pedestrians stepped into traffic. Both were taken to Florida Hospital DeLand where one, a 58-year-old man who hasn't been identified yet, was later pronounced dead. Robert Weaver, 50, of DeLand is listed in serious condition.

Tagle, who was hired in June of 2014, has been paid on paid administrative leave pending the results of the FHP investigation. Once that investigation is finished, the DeLand Police Department will conduct its own internal review.
