DeLand Police Officer Finds Man With Gunshot Wound During Traffic Stop

DeLand, FLUpdate: Police have identified the 18-year-old man pulled over during a traffic stop Monday night that was found to be suffering a gunshot wound.

DeLand resident, Kewaune Pernell, has been confirmed as the victim.

Currently, this is the only new information available, but as the investigation continues, updates will be provided.

DeLand Police are investigating an incident that led to an 18-year-old man being shot Monday night.

According to a report from the City of DeLand, at 9:34 PM, Monday, March 13, a DeLand Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Plymouth Avenue. The car pulled into the Florida Hospital parking lot and the officer discovered the 18-year-old driver had a gunshot wound. The injuries appear to be non-life threatening. He is currently being treated at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Officers believe the 18-year-old was shot in the vicinity of the Wendy's at 1203 South Woodland Boulevard.
