DeLand Police Department Designates Safe Place For Internet Exchanges

DeLand, FL - The DeLand Police Department has set up a safe place for residents to exchange internet purchases- two parking spaces in front of the police department.

According to the police department, as internet purchases continue to be a growing trend, the idea is to help residents feel safe as they are conducting business or purchasing or selling internet items. The department has designated a safe spot for internet trades at 219 W. Howry Ave. The area is under video surveillance. The spot also provides good lighting, although it is highly recommended that these types of transactions take place during the daylight hours. Residents are also able to use the police department lobby.

“When you are selling an item to a stranger, there’s always a potential for a person to be a victim of criminal activity,” Police Chief Jason Umberger says. “While we want to remind people to remain alert while conducting business with a stranger, this program helps to create a safer environment and reduces the level of fear for residents who are making these exchanges.”
