DeLand Police Chief Recommends Officer Be Fired

DeLand, FL - A seven-year veteran of the DeLand Police Department is on the verge of being fired for derogatory remarks she allegedly made to officers she was training about their employer.

Officer Rachel Riley (center of above photo) has been recommended for termination by DeLand PD Chief Jason Umberger. She's now on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of her hearing on June 25th.

That move from Chief Umberger came after an internal investigation where four new recruits complained about Officer Riley's conduct during a training session in March.

According to this DeLand PD Internal Affairs report, Riley became upset when she wasn't provided Narcan during a training session, throwing her phone in frustration and telling those recruits not to "have high hopes" about the job.

The report also shows her telling those recruits she "hates this place" and informing one of the female recruits not to wear makeup for future training sessions.

Riley had at least 26 previous complaints filed against her during her time as an DeLand police officer, according to the IA report.
