DeLand PD To Hide Golden Painted Rocks, Finders Entered To Win Prizes

DeLand, FL – Following the success and community interest of prior events, the DeLand Police Department will be bringing back and expanding their painted rocks program.

On Saturday evening, May 20, 20 golden painted police rocks will be hidden throughout the City of DeLand. If you find a rock, you are asked to call the number on the back of it and hold onto it. The DeLand Police Department asks that everyone only takes one rock, even if they find several. “We’re asking people to limit themselves to one rock just so everybody has a chance to participate,” says Chris Graham, Community Information Specialist.

Those who find rocks will receive an official DeLand Police Rocks T-shirt and will be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize. To be eligible for the prize, individuals with rocks are required to be at a pizza party on May 27 at the DeLand Police Department, 219 West Howry Avenue, DeLand.

This expansion of their painted rocks program is done through a partnership between the DeLand Police Department and local businesses including Pat & Toni’s Sweet Things, Tom’s Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Moe’s Southwest Grill and West Volusia County Shed Co.

“Our officers are always looking for ways to engage with the public and this was just an innovative way and a simple way to just get in touch with kids and families,” says Graham.
