DeLand, FL - Police are investigating after a 5-year-old boy was shot in the head with a pellet gun in DeLand on Wednesday afternoon.

The boy's mother called 911 at around 3:15 PM on May 24 and told dispatchers her son wasn't breathing and had been hit in the head by a concrete block. After a preliminary investigation, the DeLand Police Department determined that a group of children were playing with a pellet gun in the 700 block of E. Carolina Ave. when the boy was shot.

The 5-year-old suffered trauma to the head and was brought to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. He's still being treated there and officials say he's in stable condition.
