DeLand PD Asks Public To Vote To Help Its K-9, Daro, Win A Bullet-Proof Vest

Posted
DeLand, FL - The DeLand Police Department is asking for the public's help to win one of its K-9 Units a Kevlar bullet-proof vest. DeLand's K-9, Daro, has been entered into a contest sponsored by a nonprofit called Keeping K-9s in Kevlar. The top 3 dogs with the most likes on Facebook will be awarded a K-9 Storm Patrol SWAT Kevlar vest. If Daro wins, the vest will pay tribute to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) K-9, Forest, who was killed in the line of duty in November of last year. Daro, a 4-year-old German Shepherd, was born in the Netherlands and taken to Germany when he was very young. In 2014, Daro was taken to the U.S. to go to K-9 school with the VCSO. In his first year, Daro helped lead Police to 8 robbery suspects and completed his first apprehension with a DUI suspect. In 2015, Daro was dual-certified along with his partner in narcotic detection.

“K-9 officer Daro is an important part of the DeLand Police Department family,” says DeLand Police Chief, Jason Umberger. “A vote for Daro could potentially save his life and the lives of one of our officers or one of our citizens. So please vote for Daro by liking his picture on Facebook.”
