DeLand PD: Corrections Officer Arrested For Allegedly Stabbing Her Boyfriend

DeLand, FL - A Seminole County Corrections Officer has been arrested by DeLand police after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend during an argument over a text she received.

On Tuesday at around 10:30 AM, Roy King arrived at Florida Hospital DeLand with a stab wound to the shoulder and told hospital staff that he received the wound a few days prior. When police arrived, King said he had been stabbed by 22-year-old Asia Darleen-Henriquez, a Seminole County Correctional Deputy, on Sunday at her DeLand residence.

According to King, the two began a verbal argument after he saw a text from someone else saying “honey” on Darleen-Henriquez’s phone. King said that when he tried to leave through the front door, Darleen-Henriquez took an “eight-inch long army knife” and stabbed him in the shoulder. He was bleeding heavily and called Darleen-Henriquez’s mother for a ride. He originally bandaged the wound himself but wanted to seek further treatment without police involvement.

When police interviewed Darleen-Henriquez, she gave a different story. She said that they were “goofing off” in the kitchen while she was cutting onions. King allegedly came up from behind and grabbed her. Darleen-Henriquez said she was startled and threw her hands back, which lead to her stabbing King accidentally.

She told police that King freaked out and left, but had spoken to her and stayed the night since the incident occurred. She said she cleaned up the mess because she believed it was nothing more than an accident.

Darleen-Henriquez, who had been dating King for about four months according to the report, said she saw and gave King money on Tuesday morning. She said that she has had issues with King in the past and proved she has a temporary protection order against him due to his behavior. King allegedly tried to get her fired from her job as a correctional deputy.

Darleen-Henriquez also said that her sister was at the residence during the incident. Her sister told police during an interview that the two were playing around. She said she did not witness the actual stabbing but was able to provide a description of the events that was consistent with Darleen-Henriquez’s. The sister told police she believed it was an accident.

According to the incident report, Darleen-Henriquez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
