DeLand Man Killed After Crashing Pickup Truck Into A Tree

Lake County, FL – A DeLand man was killed in a crash in Lake County on Wednesday after he crashed a pickup truck into a tree.

The crash occurred at about 1 PM on Wednesday. 58-year-old David Cheek, of DeLand, was driving the pickup truck eastbound on County Rd. 42 and left the roadway for an unknown reason, according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The vehicle over-corrected, overturned, and then struck a tree near the intersection of County Rd. 42 and State Rd. 44.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP. Cheek was not wearing a seatbelt, and it is still unknown whether or not alcohol was involved in the incident.
