DeLand, FL - A 38-year-old DeLand man is facing charges after a domestic disturbance in which he allegedly battered his wife, threatened her with a knife, and punched her two-year-old son in the head. At around 3 PM on Saturday, Josue Melendez Rosario’s wife observed her daughter playing with her son by taping a plate on him to make him laugh. When Rosario entered the room and saw the children playing, he began to yell and an argument ensued. Rosario's wife intervened when he threatened to break the daughter’s teeth. Rosario allegedly told his wife to hit the girl and when she did not, he became angry. The argument led the two into the bedroom where Rosario allegedly pushed, punched, and choked his wife. She was able to kick Rosario away but her two-year-old son tried to intervene during the altercation. The wife said Rosario punched her two-year-old in the head in order to move him away. Rosario then went into the kitchen to grab a knife and allegedly told his wife that he was going to kill her. The wife then ran into the bedroom with her children and locked the door while Rosario left on his bike. According to police, there were visible markings on the wife’s neck, arms, and legs. Rosario was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and inflicting a mental or physical injury upon a child. As of Monday, Rosario remained in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $15,000 bond.
