DeLand, FL - The City of DeLand has been internationally recognized for its achievements in performance management.

Recently, the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) awarded DeLand a Certificate of Achievement for its efforts in reporting performance data. The ICMA is dedicated to helping local governments all over the world to improve their management, leadership, innovation, and ethics.

“Performance management is a bedrock principle of professional local government management,” says Marc A. Ott, ICMA Executive Director. “By recognizing these leaders, ICMA hopes to encourage others to make a commitment to collect and analyze data, report it transparently, and use it to continuously engage their communities and improve their organizations.”

In order to receive the recognition, the City of DeLand met an achievement level of collecting, analyzing and verifying data, as well as their efforts to report that data to the public through elected officials, newsletters or budgets. The certificate also acknowledges that the City of DeLand made an achievement with how it trains staff in performance management.

There were 3 levels of certificates that the ICMA gave out, including a Certificate of Achievement, Certificate of Distinction, and the highest honor, a Certificate of Excellence. The City was one of 19 organizations to receive the Certificate of Achievement and one of 57 organizations to be acknowledged at all.

To receive a Certificate of Distinction, an organization would have to release comparative data, use data in their planning and decision-making, and share their finding with other local governments.

To be eligible for the Certificate of Excellence, an organization would have to keep track of outcomes, provide surveys to residents and government employees, present their data visually and create a culture of performance in their organization.

The ICMA will recognize DeLand and all other recipients during the week of October 22 through 25 at the 103rd Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas as well as in the October issue of ICMA's Public Management Magazine.
