DeLand Church Severely Damaged In Fire; Firefighter Injured During The Blaze

DeLand, FL - A DeLand church was severely damaged during a fire that started Friday afternoon, and one firefighter was injured while putting out the flames. Volusia County Fire Rescue says a call came in at around 12:33 PM on Friday. Someone said they saw smoke and flames coming from the two-story Lighthouse Church at 1525 South S.R. 15A. DeLand Fire Department, Orange City Fire Department, and Volusia County EMS all responded to the blaze. The City of DeLand confirmed that a DeLand firefighter was taken to the hospital for minor burn injuries. The State Fire Marshal was still on-scene Friday afternoon, and officials are working to confirm the cause of the fire. Volusia County Fire Rescue says the fire was put out by 2:15 PM, but the building appears to be a total loss.
