DeBary, FL - The suspect in an armed robbery at a DeBary Burger King on Wednesday morning was arrested just minutes after the crime when Orange City police spotted the vehicle Volusia County deputies were looking for. The robbery at the Burger King, 305 Sunrise Blvd., was called in at about 11:33 AM. When deputies got to the scene, witnesses told them that the suspect, described as a white man carrying a backpack and wearing a black shirt and black pants, had a gun and robbed the employees at two registers before running out with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured during the robbery and witnesses said the suspect ran into a nearby wooded area. Witnesses also described a silver Ford SUV that sped out of that same wooded area. One witness said he saw an SUV backed into the woods there earlier. At 11:46 AM, 13 minutes after the robbery was reported, an Orange City police officer spotted an SUV that matched the suspect vehicle description near Saxon Blvd. and Threadgill Place in Orange City. The vehicle also had some vegetation stuck to the back, presumably from when it was parked in the wooded area described earlier. Officers conducted a traffic stop and deputies came to the scene, bringing with them two witnesses who were able to positively identify the driver, 32-year-old Matthew H. Juan, as the suspect in the armed robbery. Deputies found cash in the wooded area near the Burger King where the SUV had been parked. Detectives interviewed Juan on Wednesday afternoon. VCSO says he may be transient and could be new to the area. He's facing a charge of armed robbery.
