Volusia and Flagler Counties, FL - Local Police Departments, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and the DEA are all working together to hold drug take back events to help prevent pill abuse and theft.

The take-back events will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 10 AM to 2 PM. It's free, it's anonymous, and no questions will be asked. Liquids, needles, and sharps will not be accepted, but pills and patches will.

"These bins are open to the public and we do these probably just about quarterly," said NSBPD Operations Lieutenant Shane Riggle. "We recommend people use a secure facility like the Volusia County Sheriff's Office or the New Smyrna Beach Police Department."

Americans turned in 447 tons of prescription drugs last April to nearly 5,400 sites operated by the DEA in conjunction with over 4,200 state and local law enforcement partners. In it's previous 11 take back events combined, the DEA and its partners have collected over 6.4 million lbs or about 3,200 tons of pills.
