Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach Police are searching for a man who is accused of firing four to seven shots at another man at the Carolina Club Apartments in Daytona Beach. The incident took place at around 9 PM Friday, September 29, at the apartment complex located at 120 Carolina Lake Dr. 30-year-old Jeron Denson, from Ormond Beach, was in the parking lot of Building 120 of the complex when he saw a man driving up slowly behind him. According to Lyda Longa, Public Information Officer for the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD), police believe Denson recognized the other man as 20-year-old Bryan Diaz-Ortiz, the ex-boyfriend of the woman Denson is dating. When Denson recognized Ortiz, he got in his own car and tried to exit the opposite side of the complex. That's when police say Ortiz began shooting at Denson with a rifle. After Ortiz began shooting, Denson pressed on the gas and attempted to run Ortiz over. Denson crashed his car into a tree at the front of the complex, according to police reports. Denson says that he was shot at four to seven times, and there were several witnesses to the incident. He was not injured in the shootings. There were three different shooting scenes at the complex, according to reports. There was a rifle magazine near the crash scene, an apartment door at building 108 that appeared to have a bullet hole in the door frame, and shells from .223 caliber rounds and a 9 millimeter round near building 120. Ortiz has a warrant for his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Longa. "I just think it's a shame that kind of thing is going on. There's other ways to resolve your issues other than resorting to gun violence," Longa says. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
