Daytona Beach, FL - Police say a Daytona Beach man was arrested for stealing another man's cell phone at gunpoint and storing the cell phone in a freezer. 32-year-old Demorris Hogg is accused of robbing Chantz Ellis of his phone in Daytona Beach. The incident took place at around 4 AM on Sunday at the intersection of Seagrave Ave. and Bellevue Ave. According to police reports, Ellis was walking along the intersection when Hogg came up to him and asked him if he could use his phone. As Ellis was pulling out the phone to unlock it, Hogg pointed a gun at the back of his head and demanded the phone. Ellis complied, and Hogg fled eastbound with the phone. Ellis went to a neighbor's house and dialed 9-1-1. Ellis provided police with a description of the robbery suspect, and police began searching the area for the suspect. Daytona Beach police found a man matching the suspect's description coming out of an apartment complex on Bellevue Ave. Hogg was taken into custody, and Ellis positively identified him as the robbery suspect. The owner of the apartment where Hogg was located allowed police to search the apartment. A cell phone, later identified as Ellis's, was found in the kitchen freezer. The owner of the apartment did not want to be identified, according to police reports. No firearm was located in the apartment at the time of the search, police records say. The cell phone was returned to Ellis. Hogg was held without bond on Sunday and is charged with armed robbery. He is also charged with a prior, unrelated burglary.
