Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) has charged a caretaker with second degree murder in the death of a Daytona Beach man who was diagnosed with mental disorders and had a history of getting into altercations. 49-year-old Pernell Robinson was found dead at his residence at 224 Taylor Ave in Daytona on July 15. He was found by 55-year-old Diane Reid, who lived with him as a caretaker and reported his death to police. Reid reported that Robinson was missing for about three days prior to his death and that he had shown up earlier at the home that morning bruised and battered, according to DBPD. Robinson died at the home later that day. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide due to blunt force trauma. Reid was interviewed by investigators. Through the investigation, officials discovered that Reid had taken out a life insurance policy on Robinson prior to his death. Reid's statements also confirmed that she was the only person with Robinson between the time he arrived home and the time of his death, DBPD says. The case was presented to the Office of the State Attorney's Homicide Investigation Unit for review. An arrest warrant was obtained, and Reid was found at her residence and taken into custody without incident. For earlier reporting on this story, click here.
