Daytona Beach, FL – Police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a Daytona Beach Dollar General that occurred earlier this week.

At around 10 PM on Tuesday, September 19, two black males entered the Dollar General, located at 825 W. International Speedway Blvd., and proceeded to rob the store at gunpoint. According to one of the victims, one of the males was around 6ft, 120lbs and wore a dark shirt, dark pants, a yellow and black hat and a red bandana over his nose and mouth. The second suspect was reported as wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants and black and white Jordans.

When they walked in, they told a customer to leave and locked the door behind them. The first suspect pointed the gun at an employee telling her to open the cash register. The employee told the suspects that she was not able to open it, but her manager could. That employee, as well as another who came from the bathroom were forced into the corner by the drinks. The victim that came from the bathroom said that he believed the first suspect intended to cause him harm.

While the first suspect held the employees in the corner, the second suspect pointed a gun at the back of the manager’s head while she was getting the money out of the safes. She told the suspect that she could only give them the money in the top of the safe otherwise the lower level of the safe was on a 9-minute timer. As the manager set a timer, the first suspect grabbed several packs of cigarettes and the second suspect told the manager that they were going to leave with what they had. The suspects fled the store and headed westbound on ISB.

When the police arrived, a perimeter was set up. On Maley St., police saw two men that fit the description of the suspects. They found a black nylon bag and a semiautomatic handgun behind 836 Maley St. The Air-one helicopter saw a potential suspect laying on the ground at 315 Reva St. Officers found the 17-year-old suspect laying on the ground near the fence in the backyard and arrested him.

The suspect said he was not the one with the gun. Police found the red bandana and metallic knuckles in his pockets and took him to the Daytona Beach Police Department for questioning. There, he admitted to having the gun and participating in the armed robbery and was subsequently taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice. $2,031 of the $2,320 was recovered as well as 7 packs of Newport cigarettes.
