Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach felon, who police say has a "violent history," is now behind bars after a three-hour standoff with officers and is charged with threatening his aunt and an officer with guns. Police say 39-year-old Raymond Roberts tried to flee from officers after they responded to a case at a store on Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. at around 6:14 PM Thursday night. Roberts allegedly attempted to strike a store employee. According to police records, Roberts used two firearms to threaten an officer. Robert stated, "I got eight shots. I'm ready to die today. Let's get it." Roberts continued to disregard commands from officers, reports say, and he then sped off in a Chevy Equinox, running several red lights along the way. Officers later responded to a call on Forest Ave., where a woman said that her nephew, later identified as Roberts, threatened her with a rifle. Daytona Beach police, SWAT officers, and hostage negotiators all responded to the scene. After about three hours, Roberts surrendered. No one was hurt during the incident. Police say they seized two firearms during the arrest. Roberts is charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, multiple counts possession of a firearm by a felon, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
