DBIA Traffic Increases For 4th Straight Month

Daytona Beach, FL - After a huge jump in April's passenger numbers, Daytona Beach International Airport has more modest gains in the latest report.

Traffic at the county-owned facility went up 1.7 percent this past May compared to the same month in 2017, according to that report.

"May marks the fourth straight month of passenger traffic increases over 2017," added DBIA Director Rick Karl. "Our traffic numbers continue to grow year over year because demand consistently exceeds the capacity added by both American and Delta. This year has followed our recent trend of record growth."

68,418 passengers passed through DBIA's gates last May, 1,146 more than the May prior.

Karl expects the growth pattern to stop temporarily in June because of a string of canceled flights from American Airlines.

"American Airlines (Piedmont) reported over 20 flight cancellations in the month of June due to a computer outage in Charlotte," Karl noted.

Year-over-year passenger numbers shot up 4% at the end of May, with 731,487 passengers going through this year versus 702,737 passengers last year.
