Browns Looking To Overhaul Riverfront Park

Daytona Beach, FL - A prominent local family is offering to pay the bill on a city park overhaul.

Cici and Hyatt Brown - known for the Daytona Beach-based insurance company Brown & Brown - told the city commission at last night's meeting that they're willing to pay $15 million out of their own pocket to renovate Riverfront Park in Daytona Beach.

Part of their plans includes planting around 50 new large trees up to 30 feet to add shade to the park, new flower beds in a multitude of colors, a splash park for children and to widen the "Sweetheart" trail.

They also want to add new light poles to the park to improve the safety at night. New restrooms and a small office are also in their plans.

Commissioners will make a decision in one to two months.

This comes after Brown & Brown announced plans for a new $60 million corporate headquarters on Beach Street that would overlook the Halifax River. Construction on that lot (pictured below) - which is next to the Indian motorcycle dealership - is expected to begin sometime in the fall.
