Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is warning residents of a string of robberies in Daytona involving items related to the online selling app, Letgo, and the police department is offering its parking lot as a safe place to conduct these types of transactions.
The Letgo app allows users to create an account and post merchandise on the app that they want to sell. Potential buyers can then contact the seller to arrange a meeting.
DBPD says four or five face-to-face meetings linked to this app in the past six months have resulted in robberies. Some buyers have asked to look at the merchandise while meeting with the seller, and then they took off with the items without paying the seller. In many of these cases, the buyer has provided the seller with a fake name and identity, so it is difficult for officials to track down the suspects.
DBPD is allowing anyone who wants to conduct transactions related to Letgo or other similar online apps to use the police station parking lot at 129 Valor Blvd. The police department has ordered signs to indicate where residents can park if they wish to safely conduct this type of business. The lobby of the police department is also available for these transactions.
