Daytona Beach, FL – Update: The Daytona Beach Police Department has identified the suspect in Saturday morning's fatal hit-and-run on the Seabreeze Bridge as Christopher Alan Whealan.

Officials say charges against Whealan are pending.

Earlier Reporting:

A 24-year-old bicyclist is dead after a hit-and-run crash on the Seabreeze Bridge.

At around 3 AM Saturday, Daytona Beach Police responded to the westbound side of the Seabreeze Bridge where a hit-and-run crash between a bicyclist and a pickup truck occurred. Officers were told that Justin A. Gary, 24, was hit by a silver or gray Dodge pickup while riding his motorized bicycle on the shoulder of the bridge

Three witnesses told police that the truck could not maintain his lane and that speed was a factor. Witnesses said that when the truck hit Gary, it severely damaged his bike and dragged him before he was thrown 50 feet from his bike.

Gary was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center where he died at 7:18 AM. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is ongoing and charges are currently pending.
