Daytona Beach, FL – Daytona Beach police are searching for a suspect after a woman’s car was stolen with her two 3-year-old children inside, and the vehicle and children were found a short time later.

Police responded to 601 Bellevue Ave. in Daytona at around 6:30 PM Wednesday after a woman reported her vehicle stolen while she had left the vehicle running with the keys in the ignition in order to keep the car warm while the children were inside. The woman had stepped inside the China One restaurant to purchase food, according to police reports. When she came back outside, she saw someone speeding off in the car. The woman did not get a good look at the suspect, so she was unable to give a description, police say.

Less than ten minutes later, a witness reported seeing the vehicle, a red Chevy Impala, drive into the parking lot at an apartment complex at 1350 Virginia Ave. The witness said that she saw the suspect get out of the Impala and abandon the vehicle. The suspect is described by the witness as a taller black man wearing white jeans and a white hoodie.

The mother of the children was taken by officials to the apartment complex where the Impala was spotted, and she was able to take custody of the children. No arrests have been made at this time.
