Daytona PD Investigating Fatal Hit & Run

Daytona Beach, FL - Investigators are searching for a gray or silver Kia Optima involved in a fatal hit and run accident with a motorcyclist.

The Daytona Beach Police Department says it happened around 7 o'clock last night (March 6th) on South Nova Road approaching Ridgecrest Drive, just north of the Beville Road intersection.

DBPD Sergeant Kelsey Harris tells us the Kia - believed to be a 2011, 2012 or 2013 model - was heading southbound on Nova when it collided with a 2003 Honda motorcycle heading in the same direction.

"The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike," Harris added. "He was transported to Halifax Hospital and pronounced deceased at [7:36 p.m.]."

Whoever was driving the Kia fled the scene in the car, but parts left behind helped police identify the make and model, per Harris.

"The vehicle should have front end damage and [a] missing passenger side headlight," Harris noted.

Detectives have yet to identify the motorcyclist, pending next of kin notification, but DBPD did confirm he wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police haven't released any other details, including a suspect description or photos/videos of the Kia.

DBPD is asking anyone with information to call Investigator Ashley Rossi at 386-671-5366. Tips can also be submitted online or texted to "CRIMES" (274637) starting with the phrase "DBTIPS".
