Daytona, New Smyrna & Ormond Ranked In "Best Beach Towns" List

Daytona Beach, FL - A new survey from a popular financial advice website shows Daytona Beach has a ways to go in order to be considered one of the best beach towns in the United States of America.

Wallethub's report - titled "2018's Beach Beach Towns To Live In" - ranks Daytona Beach 117th in the country out of 161 towns and 38th out of 52 towns in Florida.

Also making the list are New Smyrna Beach (62 overall, 18 in Florida) and Ormond Beach (86 overall, 26 in Florida). No other towns in the Volusia-Flagler area made the list.

Five of of Wallethub's Top 10 are in the Sunshine State: Naples (2), Sarasota (3), St. Augustine (5), Boca Raton (7) and Key West (10).

Wallethub officials say the report looked at 205 towns throughout the country - including those on lakes - and measured 58 "key indicators of livability", with the main ones being affordability, weather, safety, economy, education & health and quality of life.

Daytona Beach's highest marks came in affordability (23rd best in the USA), weather (41) and quality of life (52), but were well below the average in economy (121), education & health (135) and safety (148).

New Smyrna Beach's best score was in affordability (12) and the city also did fairly well in economy (35), quality of life (63) and weather (69). Safety (105) and education & health (117) brought up the rear.

Like New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach made the Top 100 in four categories: affordability (20), weather (40), economy (48) and quality of life (78), with safety (116) and education & health (121) falling short.
