Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach man was arrested on Wednesday after officials say he crashed into a police cruiser, injured a Daytona Beach Police (DBPD) officer, and tried to hide in a trash can. DBPD says 23-year-old John Headen IV had attempted to flee from one officer who tried to pull him over, and Headen ended up crashing his car into Officer Michael Lima's patrol car near the intersection of McLeod Ave. and Walnut St. in Daytona. The crash occurred at around 10:41 PM on Wednesday. Lima suffered only minor abrasions and redness on his arms. After the crash, Headen fled on foot, along with another passenger. Officials searched the car Headen was driving and found several white pills, a gray powdery substance, and a hard white substance, according to arrest reports. The substances tested positive for drugs, including cocaine and heroin. Officer Chris Pearsall and his K-9, Bruk later tracked down Headen inside a trash can at 329 Walnut St., and Headen was taken into custody. Headen does have a felony record, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in October. He is currently charged with possession of cocaine, heroin, and hydromorphone; resisting an officer without violence; driving while his license was suspended, canceled, or revoked; and fleeing the scene of the crash with damage.
