Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach man was arrested for aggravated child abuse on Wednesday after police say he beat his 17-year-old son several times with a metal baseball bat during a fight. Officers arrived at a home in Daytona at around 7:17 AM on Wednesday. They found the teen sleeping in his bedroom, and the pillowcase was stained with blood. The 17-year-old was taken to Halifax Health in Daytona for treatment. Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) says that the father, 52-year-old Michael Murphy, had gotten into an argument with his son. According to arrest reports, the son had recently been arrested in Daytona Beach Shores, and the two men got into the argument because Murphy would not give his son his car keys and cell phone back. The argument between the two men became physical, and when officers arrived at the home, they reported contusions and lacerations on the top of the son's head. The son told police that his father got a metal baseball bat out of a dresser and hit him with it. The father appeared to be drunk, and he had slurred speech when questioned by police, according to arrest reports. Murphy was questioned at police headquarters and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail. He faces one count of aggravated child abuse.
