Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona man was arrested on Sunday after police say he robbed a Daytona Beach Holiday Inn with a knife and enlisted the help of a 15-year-old boy in the heist. Daytona Beach Police say that around 3:30 PM on Sunday, they responded to a scene at the Holiday Inn at 1615 S. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach. 32-year-old Jermicheal "Phoenix" Burgy, of Daytona, had sent a 15-year-old boy into the lobby of the hotel to ask about room rates. An employee said the boy was acting "very strangely," according to police reports. Once the clerk gave the teenager the room rates, the boy left and re-entered the Holiday Inn with Burgy. Burgy told one of the employees, Jessica Ford, that he needed medicine for a headache and began walking over to the gift shop. According to the police reports, Burgy entered the gift shop area and climbed over the counter-top to the area behind the front desk. Ford said in official statements that Burgy pulled out a "cheap looking" kitchen knife. Ford told police that Burgy held the knife to her and demanded money from the two registers in front. He pointed at the registers again and demanded money a second time. Eventually, Burgy opened both registers by himself and fled with the money, along with the teenager, in a silver Dodge Charger. Shortly after the robbery, Daytona Beach Police spotted Burgy and the teenager speeding down International Speedway Blvd. in the Dodge Charger. Officers pursued them, but the two later abandoned the vehicle at Garden St. and got away on foot. The two were ultimately found at a business at 801 Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. Burgy was arrested for robbery with a deadly weapon and fleeing law enforcement. He was held on $22,000 bond. The teenager was questioned by police and arrested as well. He is in juvenile detention.
