Daytona's Airport Could Soon Add Canadian Airline

Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach International Airport could soon be adding a Canadian airline, with flights to and from Toronto, as an option for its passengers. Jay Cassens, director of business development for the airport, has confirmed Toronto-based Sunwing Airlines is considering bringing its services to DBIA, although the time frame for the possible addition is still uncertain. Plans for the deal are still in their infancy and the idea would be subject to approval from Volusia County. "We're still a long ways away from actually securing the service," says Cassens. "We're just continuing to go through the process and hopefully it leads to good things in the future." Right now, DBIA offers daily service from Delta, American and JetBlue. If the airport is able to secure Sunwing as a carrier, its flights in and out of the Daytona area would be seasonal. "The benefits would be tremendous, especially bringing in international service, whether it be this airline or any airline. It would be a tremendous value to the traveling public here, and more importantly, bring in tourism," explains Cassens. He adds that adding an airline such as Sunwing could bring in thousands of additional passengers and millions of dollars of revenue to the area.
