Daytona City Commission Passes Amendment To Allow Dogs In Outdoor Dining Areas

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - On Wednesday, the Daytona Beach City Commission passed an amendment that will allow dogs in the outdoor dining areas of restaurants and other food service establishments. The original ordinance was added to the City of Daytona Beach's Land Development Code (LDC) in September of 2012. When a new LDC was later adopted, the ordinance allowing dogs in outdoor dining areas of food service establishments was left out of the language in the code. Now that the Commission has approved the new measure, the ordinance will be added back into the LDC. Under the ordinance, dogs will be allowed only in the outdoor dining area of the establishments unless otherwise allowed by state or federal law. According to City records, the food service establishments must get a permit from the City before they can allow dogs in the designated areas. Some other provisions of the ordinance are that owners are required to keep their dogs on leashes at all times, dogs will not be allowed on any of the furniture, and the establishments must post signs letting customers know that dogs are allowed in the outdoor areas. Wednesday's ordinance was approved on first reading, and there will be a public hearing on the matter to officially adopt the ordinance at the April 18 City Commission meeting.
