Daytona Beach Police Pick Up Kidnapper-Carjacker

Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach Police are reporting the arrest of 26-year-old Ervin Sims.  Sims had been wanted for kidnapping and a carjacking involving three children ended in a crash. Sims had pushed his girlfriend out of her van Monday afternoon and drove off with her three children.  Soon after, according to South Daytona Police Captain Mark Cheatham, Sims got in touch with his girlfriend to arrange to bring the children to her. Before Sims could turn the kids over, police identified his vehicle and followed him.  When he noticed they were behind him, Sims sped off.  The chase ended in Daytona Beach on Derbyshire Road and Brentwood Drive when Sims was hit by another car. Sims fled the scene.  South Daytona Police retrieved the children and took them to Halifax Health Medical Center to be checked out. Sims has a previous record, dating back to 2011.
