Daytona Beach Police Officer Arrested For DUI

Lake Mary, FL - A 12-year veteran of the Daytona Beach Police Department is now on paid administrative leave after he's arrested for causing an accident while driving under the influence.

41-year-old Tyler S. Keen - currently a DBPD Officer - was booked at Seminole County Jail late Sunday night (September 2nd) on the DUI charge and cited for careless driving and refusing a Breathalyzer exam.

Keen also wouldn't perform field sobriety exercises when asked to do so by a deputy, according to his arrest report from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

First responders were called to the accident scene just after 10 o'clock Sunday night on West Lake Mary Boulevard near Interstate 4, finding a white Honda van with "significant front-end damage" and a silver Hyundai passenger vehicle with "severe rear-end damage".

Two witnesses told SCSO they saw the van heading eastbound on Lake Mary Boulevard when it crashed into the back of the Hyundai as it was stopped at a red light.

Those men also claimed the driver of the van never attempted to slow down and that they saw Keen get out of the van after the accident happened.

911 audio released by FCSO indicates at least four people were in the Hyundai at the time, according to a man who called for help.

In the report, the deputy investigating the crash wrote that Keen was standing near the van when he arrived at the scene.

"While speaking with Keen, I could smell the strong odor of the impurities of alcohol coming from his breath," stated the deputy in his report summary. "Keen’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and he had a lethargic, thick-tongued speech."

Because of his status in law enforcement, Keen's mugshot is not available for public release under Florida law, but the report does note he would be under a $500 bond on the DUI charge.

DBPD will be doing an internal investigation of the incident, according to spokesperson Lyda Longa.
