Daytona Beach Man With 13 Priors Gets 15 Years After Getting Caught With A Gun

Orlando, FL - A Daytona Beach man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Patrick Willie Smith had pleaded guilty back on September 21, 2016, after being caught with a loaded pistol. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge G. Kendall Sharp on Friday, January 27, 2017. The court also ordered him to forfeit a .45-caliber pistol and 7 rounds of .45-calliber ammunition.

At the time of the incident (January 2016 according to the plea agreement), Smith had 13 previous felony convictions.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Daytona Beach Police Department.

The case was prosecuted as a part of the Department of Justice's "Project Safe Neighborhoods" Program - a nationwide gun-violence reduction strategy.
