Daytona Beach, FL - A 25-year-old Daytona Beach man, identified as Evan Wright, is facing two charges of child neglect without great harm after two children, ages two years and nine months, left in his care were found outside near the intersection of Dunn Avenue and Fairmount Road on Wednesday. Daytona Beach Police say a passerby saw the two children entering the roadway.  That witness told police that she was trying to keep the children out of the road when she saw an open door at a nearby house.  She said she yelled inside to let someone know about the children. When officers arrived, they entered the home and searched the home for the children's caretaker. While in the home, officers observed a pill bottle and a glass smoking device containing a green, leafy substance, both within reach of anyone in the house. Wright was found sleeping in a bedroom at the back of the home and detained.  Officers noted that the residence had large amounts of trash on the floor, insects both dead and alive and the home smelled of rotting food and fecal matter. While officers were on scene, the children's mother arrived and told them the children were left in Wright's care while she and her mother ran errands.  She said that Wright was awake when she left the home. A check of the children showed them to be in good health and not suffering from any injuries.  DCF was made aware of the incident.  Wright, who's been there several times before, is in the Volusia County Jail with bond set at $6,000.
