Daytona Beach Area Law Firm To Be Honored For Pro Bono Work

Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach area law firm is set to receive the 2018 Law Firm Commendation at the upcoming Pro Bono Awards ceremony hosted by the Supreme Court of Florida.

Hallisky & Davis services mostly the Volusia and Flagler County areas with its offices in Daytona Beach and Sanford. In 2016,  Jimmy Allen Davis and Deborah M. Hallisky combined their solo practices into one law firm after learning of each other’s frustrations with how the poor are often turned away from legal representation because they cannot pay.

Hallisky mentored Davis during her employment as an affordable housing preservation attorney for the Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida from 2008 through 2015. In 2015, Jimmy Allen Davis received The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the Seventh Circuit after donating several hundred hours of service through the Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida.

Hallisky joined the Bar and graded with her J.D. from the Stetson University College of Law in 2000. Davis joined the Bar and graduated with his J.D. from the Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School Of Law in 2012. Both Hallisky and Davis became lawyers after having careers in business.

”A pro-bono volunteer and his mentor from legal aid decided to forge a practice to bridge the market gap between the indigent and those who have little to no trouble retaining counsel,” said Davis about the firm.

Both lawyers regularly serve the Mid-Florida Housing Partnership, a nonprofit agency that provides and develops affordable housing properties and housing counseling. The agency is HUD-certified and provides Hallisky & Davis with resources, such as office space, so they can provide their pro bono counseling.

Every week, Hallisky & Davis provides free counseling to those with housing, family, and consumer legal problems at the Mid-Florida Housing Partnership office in Daytona Beach. Hallisky & Davis is present at many nonprofit conferences to share their mission with other agencies and organizations.

The firm regularly attends area housing fairs and other outreach events to provide counsel regarding housing issues. Hallisky & Davis also gives individuals and families nonlegal advice and direction to other resources in the community. During a 7-month period in 2017, Hallisky & Davis provided over 225 hours of legal aid to 160 individuals and families and provided full representation in 30 pro bono cases.

The awards ceremony will begin at 3:30 PM on Thursday, January 25. The ceremony will present awards for individual, circuit, voluntary bar, young lawyer, state judicial, and federal judicial pro bono work. You can watch a live stream of the ceremony here.
