Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) officials say a power outage at an Atlanta airport last month impacted DAB's airport traffic for December 2017, which decreased slightly compared to December 2016.
Airport traffic at DAB declined .6% for the month of December, while 2% more passengers took to the skies at DAB in 2017 compared to 2016. DAB saw 56,038 passengers in December 2017 and 56,349 passengers in December 2016. 720,825 travelers used DAB in 2017, compared with 707,657 in 2016.
“A power outage at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport impacted Delta’s operation for two days in December,” explains Airport Director Rick Karl. “The incident occurred during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year and caused eight cancellations on Delta Airlines.”
Sixty-four percent of DAB's passenger traffic flows through the Atlanta hub, according to Karl. "When we encounter these types of unpredictable events in Atlanta, it impacts our capacity or seats available. In this particular case we lost over 1,200 available seats," says Karl.
Overall, Karl explains, passenger traffic ended the year in line with the DAB's projected growth, even with several major weather events in 2017. Load factors also remained strong in 2017, gaining 3% overall compared to 2016.
"We anticipate 2018 to continue to build on the steady and sustainable growth we’ve experienced in the last five years,” says Karl.
