DeLand, FL - A 47-year-old woman is dead and a 74-year-old woman's in serious condition after a wreck in DeLand late Wednesday night.

June Weigel Johnson, 74, of DeLand was driving west on Mills Rd approaching US-17 in a 2003 Chevy 4-door. She tried to cross the intersection and make a left turn onto US-17 south, but she drove directly into the path of a 47-year-old woman from DeLand who was driving north on US-17 in an SUV, causing the front of the SUV to hit the left side of the Chevy.

Both drivers were taken to Halifax Health for treatment. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital and Johnson remains in serious condition.

FHP's investigating the crash, and at this point, they don't know if the drivers were wearing seatbelts or if alcohol played a factor in the wreck.
