Daytona Beach, FL - Update: Carlos Jenkins, the driver of the black Nissan Altima involved in last Wednesday's crash in Daytona Beach, died at Halifax Health Medical Center on Friday. The passenger in the car, Larry McClinton, died the day of the crash. Earlier Reporting: One man is dead and another is in the hospital ICU after a car crash in Daytona Beach Wednesday night where police say the driver of the car was speeding and in possession of cocaine. 25-year-old Carlos Jenkins was driving, and 34-year-old Larry McClinton was the passenger in a black Nissan Altima. Daytona Beach Police (DBPD) say the Nissan was spotted speeding in the 2300 block of S. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach Shores around 10:35 PM. An officer tried to stop the car, but it the vehicle did not stop and continued heading north on S. Atlantic Ave. The officer followed the Nissan to the 1400 block of S. Atlantic Ave. but then let the driver drive off after that. The officer noticed that the driver of the vehicle seemed to be losing control of the car while crossing Silver Beach Blvd. into Daytona Beach, so he decided to follow the driver again. Soon afterwards, the driver, Jenkins, crashed into two pillars in front of the Skyway Motel at 906 S. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach, according to DBPD. Jenkins and McClinton were both taken to Halifax Health Daytona as trauma alerts. McClinton died at 11:50 PM Wednesday, and Jenkins was still in the hospital ICU in critical and unstable condition as of Thursday afternoon. Because Jenkins was found with cocaine, the crash is still under investigation. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
