DeLand Crash Kills Motorcyclist, Critically Injures Female Passenger

DeLand, FL – Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred at the intersection of Grand Ave. and Plymouth Ave. in DeLand on Saturday morning.

At around 10:35 AM, a 50-year-old man from Hartford, CT was traveling westbound on Plymouth Ave. on a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle. A 67-year-old DeLand man was driving northbound on Grande Ave. in a 2006 Ford pickup.

According to the crash report, the 50-year-old failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. The front of his motorcycle struck the right side of the 67-year-old’s pickup. The 50-year-old was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand and was pronounced dead.

The motorcyclist’s female passenger was critically injured and taken to Halifax Health Medical Center. The report shows neither the man or the woman was wearing a helmet. Both the deceased motorcyclists and his female passenger will be identified pending next-of-kin notification. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
