Couple Found Dead With Their 3 Children In An SUV Parked On I-4 Near DeLand

DeLand, FL - 1/5/16 Update: An autopsy performed on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, didn't reveal any signs of trauma on either Daniel or Heather Kelsey, the couple found dead on December 31, 2016, near an SUV with their 3 kids inside.

One of the deceased did test positive for drugs but the Volusia County Sheriff's Office is unable to identify who it was at this time. The autopsy did not reveal an official cause of death. That won't be known until the results of their full toxicology tests come in.

Update: The couple found dead near an SUV with their 3 children inside has been identified as 32-year-old Daniel A. Kelsey and 30-year-old Heather L. Kelsey of Ormond Beach.

Earlier Reporting:

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an FHP trooper found 2 dead people near a vehicle with 3 children inside parked alongside I-4 near DeLand. The children were alive and unharmed.

Deputies responded to the scene around 2:08 AM on Saturday, December 31, shortly after the FHP trooper stopped to check on the vehicle at the 122 mile marker of EB I-4 near DeLand. The 2 adults found outside the SUV were a 32-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased couple were the parents of the 3 children found in the SUV. The boys range in age from 8 months to 4 years. As a precaution, they were brought to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. An investigator from the Department of Children and Families went to the hopsital to help with VCSO's investigation.

There are no obvious signs of foul play but VCSO's Major Case Unit is still investigating the cause of the deaths. This is an ongoing investigation and additiona details will be released when they become available.
