Daytona Beach, FL-Police have charged a Daytona Beach couple with child abuse after the child told police he was repeatedly hit with a 2-foot paddle. Police found bruises and evidence of abuse on the child who was found crying a block away from the Pierce Street home on Thursday. The child told police that the mother hit him with the paddle that had holes drilled through it. Bruises were seen on the child's ankle and buttocks consistent with being hit. The child's mother, 35-year-old Carlina Boykin, was at the residence with her live-in boyfriend, 33-year-old Matthew Neely. Both told police they had disciplined the child and Neely told police he had made the paddle. The child was examined at Halifax Hospital and a doctor confirmed that the bruising was consistent with child abuse. DCF was notified and is investigating. Both Boykin and Neely are charged with felony aggravated child abuse.
