New Voter Information Cards Go Out To Volusia Voters

2016 election voter registration

Volusia County, FL-The Volusia County Department of Elections has sent out new voter information cards recently to all registered voters. The reason, said Lisa Lewis, Supervisor of Elections, has to do with redistricting on both the state senate and the congressional plans.

Redistricting is done every ten years after the census is taken. After the lines were redrawn, Lewis said the League of Women Voters in Tallahassee and Congresswoman Corrine Brown both filed suit, alleging that the districts were drawn politically, not geographically.

After some back and forth, the issue was resolved judicially. Lewis said Volusia County is completely in Congressional District 6 and Senate Districts 7, 9 and 14.

The result is new voters information cards so that registered voters will know who their senator or congressperson is and also know where their polling place is.

Lewis asks voters to check their new card carefully and if there are any questions, contact the Department of Elections. She said it's important to do this quickly as the deadline to be registered to vote in the Primary Election is August 1.

Lewis also reminds those that aren't registered that it's easy to do. You can register at the library or a drivers license bureau. Click here to get more information.
