Volusia County, FL -   Update: On Tuesday, The Volusia County Council voted to approve a State 9-1-1 grant funding request to replace the hardware for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office's 9-1-1 calling system. Earlier Reporting: The Volusia County Council will decide at its Tuesday meeting whether or not to approve a State 9-1-1 grant funding request to replace the hardware for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office's 9-1-1 calling system. According to County records, the money for the system replacement would come from a State of Florida E911 Grant totaling $759,709. The grant money would cover the total system hardware replacement and continuity of service for the 9-1-1 system. The current 9-1-1 call handling system contract with West Safety Solutions was approved by the County Council in December of 2011, and the Council approved the addition of Text-to-911 systems in October of 2017 and extended the maintenance contract date of the system through March 14, 2022. If the Council approves Tuesday's measure, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office will then be authorized to seek and accept the State grant, and grant funds will be appropriated by the County.
