Daytona Beach, FL-The first in a series of public meetings on repairs to dune walkovers damaged and destroyed by Hurricane Matthew was held last night in Daytona Beach. The second meeting is tonight at Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach. County Manager Jim Dinneen and county staff are making the rounds to let residents know how long repairs will take and what to expect in their neighborhoods. Tomorrow night's meeting will be held at the Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach beginning at 6 PM at 105 South Riverside Drive. Hurricane Matthew damaged a majority of the 126 county-maintained coastal walkovers. 86 have been opened and 40 are still closed. Information below is from a county press release: ● Three walkovers will be rebuilt using county staff with a completion goal of January 2017. ● Fourteen walkovers will require partial or full demolition by a contractor with the in-house repair completion date estimated by March 2017. ● One walkover is still being evaluated to determine if it can be rebuilt using county staff or a contractor. ● The remaining 22 walkovers require a design task assignment for contractor repair. The work will be broken down into four separate solicitations to allow four separate zones to be under construction at the same time with a construction start goal of April and completion estimated by the end of 2017.   2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
