Corrections Sergeant Charged For Sexual Encounter With Inmate

Daytona Beach, FL - A corrections officer is out of a job and behind bars after being charged with having a sexual encounter with an inmate.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office says that's the story for 31-year-old Christopher Harvey after he was charged for sexual misconduct between a detention facility employee and an inmate, which is a felony in the state of Florida.

Detectives with VCSO's Major Case Unit started investigating the incident in October at the request of the Volusia County Corrections Internal Affairs Division.

Their investigation shows that the incident happened at the VCC Facility off of Indian Lake Road in Daytona Beach.

The report shows that Harvey received oral sex from a female inmate in the laundry room while he was supervising an overnight laundry detail on October 27th.

According to that report, the incident was witnessed by another inmate and she claimed the woman who performed the sex act did it because she wanted Harvey to bring her drugs. It also shows that Harvey, at one point, brought both those inmates coffee and snacks.

Investigators say the actual incident occurred in a "blind spot" in the jail's video surveillance system, but other video recordings backed up the inmates' story.

Harvey turned himself in earlier this afternoon (December 11th) at the VCSO Operations Center in Daytona Beach, where he was taken into custody.

He was transported to the Flagler County Jail on $5,000 bond and kept there due to his prior employment with Volusia County.

Harvey refused to answer any questions to detectives during the investigation, preferring to seek legal advice first, per the report.

His mugshot is not available for public viewing due to a state law which bans release of those photos for sworn law enforcement officers if they're arrested.
